It’s worth spending some time thinking about how you can protect yourself online. For example:
- If you use a shared computer, you may want to familiarise yourself with how to clear your internet history and cookies
- Remember to log out properly when you finish using email or an instant messaging program (don’t just exit without logging out)
- If you think someone else knows your username and password, consider opening a new account or change your password
- Never open links or attachments from an untrusted source or divulge financial information in emails or via instant messaging
- Hushmail, Skype and our online counselling service are all encrypted services – other services may send data over the internet in plain text and theoretically could be intercepted.
