I have been made redundant and am looking for a new job can I claim Jobseekers Allowance?
If you are made redundant or lose your job and feel you’re well enough to look for work you can claim JSA.
Contribution- based JSA is based on your national insurance contribution record, if you have been working and contributed enough national insurance you should get this benefit, this is payable for up to six months.
Income-based JSA is means tested and payable if you have no income or a low income. Your partner (if you have one) cannot work more then 24 hours a week or more.
If you are entitled to Income-based JSA you are exempt from Prescription charges and receive free NHS dental treatment and free eye tests.
